The wine cap mushroom
These mushrooms are the godzillas of the fungi kingdom! That reference may seem corny, but the fact is that sometimes stropharia get lost in their own thoughts and don’t pay much attention to where they step. This makes for nervous neighbours! Given the somewhat clumsy nature of the damage they inadvertently cause, they’ve been dubbed the “wine cap” mushroom, as their distracted gait looks a bit like a walk home from the pub after a long day of decomposing one’s surroundings.
Despite the cost in repairs, wine caps always help fix what they break, and are always good-natured about it. They’ve even been known to raise the value of soil in their neighbourhoods, and remove pesky nematodes. This has resulted in them generally being viewed favourably by others, so long as you’re not in their path.
Made with vintage fabric and Melton wool, craft wire, safety eyes and stuffed with sheepswool.
